We’re missing a decade. Were you there?

Swan Harmony has been singing since May 1997, when Margaret Kidson put a notice in the Echo asking whether anyone fancied a sing. Almost none of the records from the early years survive, so we’re rebuilding the story from the people who lived it.

If you ever sang with us in any year, one term or twenty, we’d love to hear from you. You don’t need to have kept anything (although we are also seeking any old memorabilia!)

Were you at the 1998 World Swimming Championships? We were eight months old and part of a 600-voice massed choir. We found a single newspaper article and a dubiously-sourced Wikipedia page. We are trying to track down the footage and if you were one of those voices, please get in touch.

Did you ever go to Oliver’s Old Time Music Hall in Guildford? Audience, cast, crew, anyone. We’re collecting every scrap of it we can find.

No detail is too small. A name, a date we’ve got wrong, a photo with someone’s elbow in it… it all helps!

Curious about what we’ve found so far? The Echo ran the story in July: Swan Harmony Choir celebrates its long community association – Echo Newspaper

We caught up with Ben and Freddy at 88.5, Community Matters, on 19 August 2026 to chat about all things choir and our 30 Years of Song: Listen Now – Community Matters (we’re on from around 1.27)
